Economics would be useful.

Forums should actually be forums
Before visiting my first forum, I expected it to be an actual internet forum, of the type often powered by phpBB (or with the "Forum" module included in Drupal's core). Instead they're indistinguishable from standard blog comment threads, which makes them unwieldy, difficult to navigate, and, well, daunting. Real thread separation and sticky topics would make them a lot more friendly and conducive to productive conversation.

Blog scheduler
It would be awesome if we could schedule blogs (and other content, such as Opportunities) to be published at a later time. I don't like to post more than one blog at once, because it pushes all of the other great content off the front page, but I often have multiple items to announce at once.

Good suggestion, Fiona. Will consider this after addressing higher priority issues such as site speed/performance.

Post-login redirect to origin instead of profile
After logging in, the user should be directed to the page she started on rather than her profile page.
This might be done easily if a token can be used ti pull the URL when clickingon the login button, eg: ".../login?destination=[token]..."

Allow attchment of documents & external links to posts
Right now the site has a content type called "Documents and links" for posting files and URLs, but it might be easier for users if this ability was just added to other content types (ie: blog posts, events, opportunities, news, etc.)

slashdot.com style threading for conversations, with icons with topics - would make accessing all the great coversations much easier

This would involve considerable development work, and would need to be prioritized along with other needs.

Keep members from being involuntarily logged off
Members are getting logged out unexpectedly when visiting certain pages, or after not using the site for only a brief period of time.
If this happened to you, please add a comment with as much detail as possible. For example, what page causes you to get logged out? If it's a time issue, how long were you away from the window with hastac.org in it, and what else where you doing?
Please also let us know your operating system and browser version. Thanks!

Make preview reflect that actual column width of live posts.
Currently, blog preview displays something COMPLETELY different from what appears when the post goes live. This is because the preview function assumes that the post will use the entire content width, but in reality posts only get a small portion of the content column.

What we actually hope to do is make the content section use the whole body width, which will bring it in line with how the preview appears.

Improve curation of features & highlights
Would like to be able to manually curate the Featured and Highlighted content more easily. Currently the site sorts by posted date, which does not always reflect our priorities.
Suggest this be implemented using the Nodequeue module.

Make the immediate details of the site readily available to users
Took me a few minutes to figure out exactly what the purpose of the site was.

We’re always working to better explain HASTAC, which is an inherently complex organization. The web site seeks to balance the needs of our members with the interests of new visitors.
We’re open to any suggestions about how to do this more effectively.

Make it to possible to search for groups by keyword (in groups page)
I was trying to find a specific group and I knew the title somewhat. I didn't know the tags or the categorization, though, so when I tried to search for the group within the group page, it was difficult. I ended up searching the entire site. I found the organizing/searchable categories under Groups to be kind of confusing. Thanks for all you do!

Saving drafts
It'd be nice to be able to save a draft post before publishing it.

Will consider this after we have dealt with some of the existing high-priority functional issues on the site.

A "delete" button for comments
Katie King wrote me that she tried to delete a comment she'd written but we don't have that function. Her comment is fine and I don't think she wants it deleted now but her comment made me try this and I think she is right that we don't offer that option. I would imagine "comments" are a place people would most want to have it. Is this each or difficult to add? Thanks, Ruby.

I’m not sure whether we would want to allow people to remove their comments, it could be confusing to other readers and commenters. Glad to discuss the suggestion.

Bring back statistics about the number of reads
I wish we could still see how many reads our posts get. The old site had that functionality. I want it back.

This is a very popular request and it’s in the works!
That said: keep in mind that those numbers are wildly inaccurate. They are mostly only good for comparing to each other.

Blogs page highlighted section needs curation
On hastac.org/blogs, the "Highlighted" section is just a different page of the most recent comments view. It seems randomly chosen, too, rather than actually highlighting worthwhile reads. Some human curation here would be nice.

This is human-curated, but it’s being sorted chronologically, which is not what we want.
My hope is to use a different tool, such as the Nodequeue module, to give us better control over what is featured and highlighted.

Info on formatting options open in new window
When you click on the "information about formatting options", it opens in the same window, which is terrifying because you could lose all you've written. Can we have this open in a new window or a javascript pop-up instead?

Add "teaser break" button to wysiwyg editor
We need the "teaser break" button in the wysiwyg editor. It's not there at the moment, which makes it hard to control breaks.

This button is currently enabled only for administrators. I think we can make it available for regular users as well.

Can the text box for inputting tags be longer?
The text field for inputting tags is fairly short - long tags (like center names, university names, conference names) get cut off, and it's hard to see what you are selecting.
